ITINERARY:
DAY 1: Thursday 17 May 2012
Preferred flights with Emirates will have you landing in Moscow at 2pm. We’ll be met at the airport and transferred to our central CBD hotel with time to refresh before our welcome dinner. We’ll get to know each other over a delicious regional banquet, provide an update and tour briefing to ensure we all have a wonderful experience.
DAY 2: Friday 18 May 2012
A sumptuous breakfast served at the hotel prior to our golf transfer to the Moscow City Golf Club for our first round of our tour. Holding the title of the first Russian golf club, designed by Swedish sportsman Sven Tumba who has managed to design a quality golf course on a reserved space in what was once the flood lands of the river Setun over a dynamic and exciting 9 hole layout played twice from different tee positions to ensure an enjoyable and varied experience. This evening we prepare for an extraordinary evening at the Bolshoi Ballet. Watching these brilliant artisans at the stunning Bolshoi Theatre is guaranteed to be a tour highlight.
DAY3: Saturday 19 May 2012
Breakfast at the hotel before we travel to the Alagarov Golf & Country Club, a dramatic undulating course, thematically set in a water environment. Water features, meandering streams and scenic waterfalls occasionally come into play and arguably one of the most luxurious golfing experiences in Russia. After our round we’ll enjoy a relaxing afternoon cruising the Moscow river. A very different perspective to view the capital from, leafy green hills in the foreground contrast boldly with the strong architectural scape of the city skyline. Blow away your preconceptions, and marvel at Moscovites sunning themselves on the grass covered beaches!
DAY 4: Sunday 20 May 2012
An exciting day of exploration in this incredible city awaits! Following breakfast we board the bus for our city excursion. The history and culture of Moscow, including Red Square—the heart of the capital will come to life. The magnificent Cathedral of Christ the Saviour dating back to the declaration of Tsar Alexander I. Stunning views of the Kremlin from the Sophia embankment, the monument to Peter the Great. A visit to the New Maiden Convent sure to charm with its beauty. Pushkin square, Theatre square and Triumphal Arch are all on the agenda. This afternoon we’ll spend time at the Tsaritsino Estate, a collection of palaces and gardens constructed especially for empress, Ekaterina II. Evening at leisure.
DAY 5: Monday 21 May 2012
Play today is at the Jack Nicklaus designed Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club, characterised as one of the best designs of his career. Carved out of mature forestland adding to the character and shape of the holes combining majestically with water features (as good as any course internationally and certainly a joy to play). Return to hotel, evening at leisure.
DAY 6: Tuesday 22 May 2012
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we transfer to Le Meridien Moscow Country Club. Set amidst birch tree forests and scenic lakes, Le Meridien Country Club is a stunning home to The Russian Open an official event on the PGA European tour. Designed by leading golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. to play as a traditional parkland course with large evergreens, native wildlife, hazards strategically placed to create risks and rewards in an exciting, enjoyable round for golfers of all abilities. A special treat tonight at Tsar’s Hunt , one of the single greatest restaurants of Russian cuisine serving cosy home-style food with an authentic Russian oven in a rustic village environment. The restaurant proudly was the rendezvous point for a dinner held by Boris Yeltsin and Jacque Chriac.
DAY 7: Wednesday 23 May 2012
This morning we can relax before our half day excursion to the ornate Moscow Metro, daily carrying over 6 million passengers daily it is impressive not only for it’s pace but it’s sheer beauty. No visit to Russia would complete without a visit to the Kremlin, a national shrine and one of the wonders of the world. The Kremlin was the largest medieval fortress between the 14th and 15th centuries. A sparkling way to round out our afternoon at the Diamond Fund—a unique collection of gems, jewellery and natural nuggets. Evening at leisure.
DAY 8: Thursday 24 May 2012
Breakfast at the hotel before we tee it up for our final round in Moscow at Pirogovo, design philosophy was to retain the maximum number of trees. The course highlight is a floating hole into which the golf ball falls, breaking not only the field, but also the body of water. Following our round we will prepare to leave Moscow for the Cossack city of Rostov-on-Don. An evening flight will see us in this historic riverside town. Check into the Don Plaza Hotel.
DAY 9: Friday 25 May 2012
Today we’ll learn about the history of the Don region, the Cossacks and see the main Cossack’s Army Cathedral of Resurrection, The Ataman’s Palace, the Archway of Triumph and visit the only Museum of Don Cossacks. This afternoon a visit to an authentic Cossack Village founded in 1780 where we will learn about the wine traditions of the Cossacks followed by a traditional dinner with wine tasting and prepare for some ”Cossack fun”.
DAY 10: Saturday 26 May 2012
Breakfast in the hotel before our 9 hole round at the Don Golf Club. The Don golf club is managed by the internationally acclaimed Troon Golf. Located in a destination enriched with history, culture and age-old traditions. Designed by German architect Volker Peschel, the course design intends to preserve local flavour and identity of the region whilst offering spectacular views for players with big fairways nestled on the banks of the river Don. This afternoon we’ll tour the local sights including Starocherkassovskaya Stanica the historic home of the legendary Cossacks.
DAY 11: Sunday 27 May 2012
A day at leisure to explore this interesting region or just relax before we fly to Saint Petersburg this afternoon. This evening check into the Ambassador Hotel. Evening at leisure.
DAY 12: Monday 28 May 2012
A hearty breakfast before we set off exploring this beautiful city. Saint Petersburg boasts an enviable selection of sights including the Nevsky Project—the most famous street of the city, Kazan Cathedral, Palace Square and the stunning Winter Palace, Admiralty, Peter the Great, Isaac’s Square with the St Isaac’s Cathedral and the Tsar Nicholas monument, Peter and Paul Fortress. This afternoon a visit to the Russian Vodka Museum will be a highly spirited affair!
DAY 13: Tuesday 29 May 2012
A relaxed late breakfast and then time to delve into the world of the artist. The Hermitage Museum is one of the largest and most important art museums in the world with over 60,000 exhibits in 350 rooms of the Winter Palace. Famous European artists are showcased including Leonardo Da Vinci, Matisse, Rembrandt, Picasso and Gaugain. After lunch we visit the stunning Yusupov Palace, the site of Rasputin’s murder. This evening we’ll visit the historic Mariinsky Theatre for a stellar performance (details advised prior to departure).
DAY 14: Wednesday 30 May 2012
A visit to one of Saint Petersburg’s most recognised sights, Peterhof Palace is sure to impress. A huge castle-park system, located 30km out of the city and known as the Russian Versailles with it’s stunning gardens and 150 fountains. This afternoon we visit St Isaac’s Cathedral a unique monument with a fine collection of religious paintings and golden frescoes. This evening we take the overnight train from Saint Petersburg to Moscow (compartment included).
DAY 15: Thursday 31 May 2012
Arrive this morning in Moscow and transfer to Marriot Grand Hotel Moscow. A chance to get in some last minute shopping and sightseeing in the capital at leisure. This evening we homage to our golfing winners, and relive the many memories of this fascinating country.
DAY 16: Friday 1 June
Following breakfast we’ll have the morning at leisure before we transfer for our afternoon flights home. Ever wanted to fly a MIG Jet or travel the great Siberian Railway? Ask us how. Packages available on request.
